Day 6 – Hungering for and treasuring God’s Word (21/01)
"A sower went out to sow his seed. And as he sowed, some fell along the path and was trampled underfoot, and the birds of the air devoured it. And some fell on the rock, and as it grew up, it withered away, because it had no moisture. And some fell among thorns, and the thorns grew up with it and choked it. And some fell into good soil and grew and yielded a hundredfold." As he said these things, he called out, "He who has ears to hear, let him hear."
And when his disciples asked him what this parable meant, he said, "To you it has been given to know the secrets of the kingdom of God, but for others they are in parables, so that 'seeing they may not see, and hearing they may not understand.'
Now the parable is this: The seed is the word of God. The ones along the path are those who have heard; then the devil comes and takes away the word from their hearts, so that they may not believe and be saved.
And the ones on the rock are those who, when they hear the word, receive it with joy. But these have no root; they believe for a while, and in time of testing fall away.
And as for what fell among the thorns, they are those who hear, but as they go on their way they are choked by the cares and riches and pleasures of life, and their fruit does not mature.
As for that in the good soil, they are those who, hearing the word, hold it fast in an honest and good heart, and bear fruit with patience. – Luke 8: 5 – 15
All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be competent, equipped for every good work. - 2 Timothy 3: 16 – 17
If God’s Word was one of the compulsory readings for our modules, would we cherish it even more? Would we study it diligently? Maybe memorize the verses which are important for the exam? Mark the bible and tag important points for the important points? I know I would.
However we do not need a module to make us cherish God’s Word. Our life is an open book exam and the Bible is our compulsory reading! It is our light and our authority as we walk down the path of life.
Be the good soil in which God’s word is planted:
Grab the Word of God whenever you hear, it before the devil snatches it.
Be rooted deeply in it so that you can overcome trials.
Push aside all other distractions that pull you away from God’s Word so that they don’t choke you
Cherish the Word of God and thank Him for speaking to us!
Prayer and Meditation
Praying for Personal needs:
- Be aware of the need for God’s Word in everyday life
- Pray for a longing to seek Him day to day
- Pray for understanding of His will for us, and to learn to abide in Him.
- Return to first love & hunger for God
Praying for the Ministry and Campus:
- As a ministry, as a DG,… encourage one another to read and understand His word.
- People will be convicted by the Word and live by it rather than by the world’s standard. (The word is their authority)
- Pray that we will live by the Word instead of pursuing knowledge, studies, popular cultures (You Tube, CrunchyRoll…)
