Day 4 – Laying aside the world(19/01)

And he said to all, "If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me. For whoever would save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will save it.
For what does it profit a man if he gains the whole world and loses or forfeits himself? For whoever is ashamed of me and of my words, of him will the Son of Man be ashamed when he comes in his glory and the glory of the Father and of the holy angels. But I tell you truly, there are some standing here who will not taste death until they see the kingdom of God." – Luke 9:23 – 27

The world is a very comfortable place to live in. We can easily snuggle up in it and enjoy its pleasures. These pleasures are not wrong in themselves. Some examples are hobbies like computer games, shopping, television and achievements like good grades, securing a future job and success.

However, when we become heavily involved in them, these things easily distract us from seeking God. We place them as more valuable than quiet time and prayer.

Jesus sees the world in a different perspective. They do not even last for eternity. These things do not even bring us salvation of our souls. Jesus said that there is no point if a person could have the whole world but yet lose it all in the end. Rather, we should seek and treat Him as more valuable than ANYTHING that this world can offer. Because God is eternal and His Word is endures forever.

One example that a friend used during his message was this. In his hands is a $50 note and he is willing to give it to the person who would give him a $10 note. A person went up and willingly gave that $10 and got a $50 in the end without any strings attached. In the same way, God is worth so much more and we can follow Him only if we give up the world which is worth so much less.
