Day 2 – Living by Grace (17/01)
For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast. – Ephesians 2:8 – 9
What then? Are we to sin because we are not under law but under grace? By no means! Do you not know that if you present yourselves to anyone as obedient slaves, you are slaves of the one whom you obey, either of sin, which leads to death, or of obedience, which leads to righteousness?
But thanks be to God, that you who were once slaves of sin have become obedient from the heart to the standard of teaching to which you were committed, and, having been set free from sin, have become slaves of righteousness. – Romans 6:15 – 18
Amazing grace! How sweet the sound
That saved a wretch like me!
I once was lost, but now am found
Was blind, but now I see.
The grace of God is indeed amazing. In that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. We as Christians live under grace. This grace can be regarded as an undeserved gift from God and it has two characteristics.
The first is that as a gift, we do not need to work for that grace – either to get it from God or to repay God for it. God gave it to us and all we have to do is accept it in faith.
The second characteristic is that as a gift, we cherish it and be thankful for it, taking care not to take it for granted by sinning continuously. Our lives should be lived victoriously, conquering sin since we are saved by His grace.
Even as we continue to be broken before Him, let us rejoice in the all- sufficient grace that God has given us at every moment and live our lives under grace till we reach home with God.
Through many dangers, toils and snares,
I have already come;
This grace has brought me safe thus far,
And grace will lead me home.
